International - Helping our international clients

We advise international clients across the full range of our core practice areas, and often our work will involve more than one jurisdiction. Many of those clients will have well-established businesses in the UK, whilst others will be setting up operations here for the first time. London is also becoming an increasingly important centre for litigation and dispute resolution and our Litigation department advises many international clients where English law governs a dispute, or the arbitration proceedings are being held in London.

We know how much our clients rely on our ability to advise them wherever they are, so we continue to invest heavily in building our international relationships:
  • Partners regularly travel abroad to maintain and strengthen existing relationships and to develop and investigate new ones.
  • We are able to provide a seamless service, including a single engagement letter and one invoice.
  • We can recommend a law firm for our clients to instruct directly, or we can co-ordinate the provision of overseas advice on a particular piece of work.
  • We co-operate with our chosen "best friends" by sharing know-how, running seminars and developing common working practices.
  • Every cross-border transaction is monitored and the quality and delivery of service is carefully reviewed.
Recent examples of international work undertaken include:

  • Advised Bridgepoint Capital Limited in connection with its public offer for the Finnish healthcare company Terveystalo Healthcare Oy. The first ever private equity backed public to private takeover offer in Finland.  Terverystalo is the leading private healthcare company in Finland, with more than 15 private clinic hospitals.
  • Advising listed Spanish food group, Grupo SOS, on its cross-border €630m acquisition of the Bertolli olive oil and vinegar business from Unilever PLC.
