News - Leapfrog Launch

Travers Smith is delighted to announce the establishment of Leapfrog, a pro-bono concept which we officially launched in London on 24 September and which has subsequently won the Legal Sector Alliance Award for Excellence in Environmental Responsibility at the Law Society Awards 2009.

Leapfrog brokers free professional support from a range of disciplines into activities which have the primary purpose of accelerating the reduction of carbon. It is a collaborative network of professionals to help low-carbon projects and entrepreneurs realise their ambitions. For the last 3 years, Travers Smith has been looking into ways it can reduce its carbon footprint by doing more than writing a cheque, but instead by creating an entity that engages professionals to make a real difference. Pro bono is in the DNA of many lawyers but mobilising other vital sectors to support climate related projects is challenging.  Travers Smith´s response was to create Leapfrog, a multi-sector, business–led collaboration to help other organisations contribute.

The launch was attended by over 250 individuals from the business, environmental and not-for-profit community who heard presentations from Will Day, Chair of the Sustainable Development Commission, Paul Turner, Head of Sustainable Development for Lloyds TSB, Travers Smith partner and Leapfrog founder Steve McNab, as well as carbon-reducing projects already receiving vital support from Leapfrog.
