The Application Process

We know that the trainees we recruit this year will be a key part of the success of our firm in the future, so we dedicate a considerable amount of time to making sure we choose the right people. After all, we’re going to be spending a lot of time in each other’s company.

A law degree is not a necessity – around half the trainees who joined last year came from a non-law background – but you will need to have shone academically. Once you’ve applied for a training contract, we’ll take a close look at your application and contact your referees. After that, the first interview will be with a partner who will want to find out what sort of person you are. Confidence is great, but not arrogance. We look for people who combine academic excellence with common sense.

You’ll need to be articulate – on your feet and on paper –  as well as determined, self-motivated and with a healthy sense of humour. Your second interview will be with two partners at our London office. A trainee will also show you around the office and give you the chance to meet a few other partners, associates and trainees.
