In this era of increasing globalisation, all City law firms are international. What distinguishes them is the way that they handle their international work.
We strongly believe that that best way of replicating the breadth and depth of our expertise in London is by hand picking, and working with, the best independent law firms in each overseas jurisdiction as opposed to opening a multitude of overseas offices around the globe (although we do have a representative office in Paris).
These independent firms have a greater depth, breadth and critical mass than the overseas outposts of many of our London competitors and our approach allows us to select the best lawyers in each location for each job. This provides a clear benefit to our clients and ensures that we provide a consistently first class service on any matter.
In addition, our reputation and approach has made us the London law firm of choice for many foreign firms looking to instruct English counsel on behalf of their clients or to work with them on cross-border transactions.
Our international strategy has resulted in over 50% of our work now having a multi-jurisdictional aspect and in any year we will typically work with over 100 foreign law firms from around the world. So as a trainee here you will certainly have an opportunity to get involved in international matters and to get to know contacts at clients and other law firms around the world.
We also send trainees to work in our Paris office and our international secondment programme has seen our qualified lawyers working all over the world, including in the U.S., Japan and India.
Each year we host an International Week where our senior associates share information and views on best practice with senior associates from firms in the major European jurisdictions.
