Our International Strategy

Today, all City law firms are international. What distinguishes us is the way that we handle our international work.

We strongly believe that the best way of replicating quality and expertise in London is by hand picking, and building close ties with, independent overseas law firms who share our specialist strengths and very demanding quality standards, as opposed to opening overseas offices across the globe.

These independent firms have a greater depth, breadth and critical mass than the overseas outposts of many of our London competitors and our approach allows us to select the best lawyers in each location for each job.

In addition, our reputation and approach has made us the London law firm of choice for many overseas firms looking to instruct English counsel on behalf of their clients, or to work with them on cross-border transactions and disputes.

Our international strategy has resulted in over 50% of our work now having a multi-jurisdictional aspect and in any year we will typically work with over 100 overseas law firms. As a trainee here, you will have the opportunity to get involved in international matters and get to know both clients and contacts at other law firms across multiple jurisdictions.

We also send trainees to work in our Paris office, and our international secondment programme has seen our qualified lawyers working all over the world, including the US, Japan, Singapore and India.

Each year, we host a number of international programmes where our lawyers share information and views on best practice, and form relationships with our network of overseas firms.
