Richard is a Consultant within the firm’s Financial Services and Markets Department. Prior to joining Travers Smith, Richard was formerly head of the financial services regulatory team at another City of London law firm.
His experience includes a period of over ten years at the UK Financial Services Authority, including acting as a deputy head of department in the General Counsel’s Division and head of legal for the Regulatory Decisions Committee (the FSA’s enforcement decision maker).
Richard is widely recognised as a leading individual for both non-contentious and contentious financial services regulatory matters, being recommended in Chambers and the Legal 500 for several years. His experience involves a wide range of financial services work including general regulatory advice, advice on the scope of the regulatory regime, client asset issues and regulatory investigations and enquiries.
Richard has contributed a chapter to Financial Services Law, 3rd Edition (ed. Walker, Purves and Blair, OUP). He also co-edited the Butterworths New Law Guide to the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000.
