Anthony trained at Travers Smith, qualified in 2000 and became a partner in 2008.  A member of the firm´s Corporate department, he specialises in corporate finance and M&A transactions, including acting on IPO´s, equity fundraisings, public takeovers and private company acquisitions and disposals. He has a particular focus on the financial services sector and was seconded to the Bank of England for 18 months during the financial crisis.

Recent work includes advising:

  • TAKKT AG on its acquisition of Equip4Work Ltd

  • The Peel Group, the largest shareholder in Intu Properties plc (Intu), in connection with Hammerson plc's £3.4billion recommended offer for Intu.

  • Safestore Holdings plc on its £56 million acquisition of Stork Self Storage Limited from a company controlled  by York Capital Management

  • Duncan Lawrie Private Bank on the sale of its wealth management business to Brewin Dolphin and of its loan portfolio to Arbuthnot Latham & Co.

  • Benchmark Holdings plc on its $342m reverse takeover of INVE Aquaculture, and on the associated £186m equity fundraising 

  • Dee Valley Group plc on its £84m contested takeovers offer by Severn Trent

  • The Peel Group on its £1.65bn sale of The Trafford Centre and strategic investment in Intu Properties

  • Metro Bank plc on its £385m private placement

  • Renshaw Bay on the sale of its real estate investment finance business to GAM

Anthony has been involved in a number of buy-outs, acquisitions and disposals (ranging in value from £2m up to £5bn) and advises companies on matters of general company law.  He has given presentations to clients, overseas law firms and law colleges on topics such as M&A, UK acquisition structures and cross-border transaction management.
