Alexa is a partner in the Dispute Resolution Department.

She is an experienced general commercial litigator, regularly advising on high-value and multi-jurisdictional disputes. She has acted on a broad range of contractual and non-contractual commercial matters including, amongst others, cases involving civil fraud and competition litigation.

Alexa has experience of litigation before the High Court and Court of Appeal, as well as arbitration. She has also acted for clients seeking urgent injunctive relief from the court.

Alexa was recently part of the multi-award-winning team on the Kaupthing case, in which Travers Smith represented Icelandic lawyer Jóhannes Rúnar Jóhannsson in a claim brought by property tycoon Robert Tchenguiz against Mr Jóhannsson and Grant Thornton UK LLP. The team was awarded (jointly with Simmons & Simmons) Litigation Team of the Year at both The Lawyer Awards 2019 and the Legal Business Awards 2019 as well as Banking Litigation Team of the Year at The Legal Week Commercial Litigation & Arbitration Awards 2019.

WORK HIGHLIGHTS

  • Acting for a major international shipping company in respect of a combined follow on and standalone damages claim brought in the High Court relating to the European Commission Maritime Car Carriers cartel decision.
  • Defending Kaupthing and Jóhannes Rúnar Jóhannsson in two Commercial Court cases in which the Tchenguiz brothers claimed damages of £3 billion for an alleged unlawful conspiracy to mislead the SFO.
  • Acting for Pathfinder Minerals Plc in connection with the disputed ownership of its mining licences in Mozambique and of the shares in its local Mozambique subsidiary.
  • Representing Stena Line Limited in a dispute relating to an industry-wide pensions scheme, the Merchant Navy Ratings Pension Fund, as to whether the trustees could amend the scheme rules so as to permit them to seek contributions from former employers to meet the fund's £272 million deficit.
  • Acting for an asset management firm in an arbitration relating to the scope and enforceability of the restrictive covenants contained in the LLP deed.
