James trained at Travers Smith and is a senior associate in the Private Equity and Financial Sponsors Group.

Private equity and financial sponsors

James advises on all aspects of corporate law, with a particular focus on UK and international private equity and M&A transactions, acting primarily for private equity firms and financial sponsors.

Together with advising PE-backed portfolio companies throughout the investment lifecycle, James has experience advising on a full range of transactions including leveraged buyouts, consortium deals, bolt-on acquisitions, carve-outs, co-investments, minority deals, recapitalisations, divestments, distressed M&A, public-to-privates, joint ventures, reorganisations and restructurings.


James was a member of Travers Smith's Management Advisory Group and continues to advise founders and management teams on all aspects of M&A transactions and, in particular, their equity incentivisation terms.

Alternative asset management

James advises the firm's global alternative asset management clients on both GP-stake transactions and structured secondary market liquidity solutions including GP-led and LP-led secondary transactions.


James was seconded to both EQT and Bridgepoint during Bridgepoint's acquisition of EQT's credit platform in 2020.


James was a previous member of the Junior Associate Committee.

Pro bono/ CSR

James co-leads the firm's relationship with Foundervine, a social enterprise that focuses on running immersive start-up accelerator programmes that help to provide founders from under-represented backgrounds with the skills, tools, and resources to build and grow their business ventures.
