James is a senior partner in the Private Equity & Financial Sponsors Group.

With 20 years' experience in private equity, James specialises in complex cross-border M&A and private equity transactions.

James is a trusted advisor to pan-European and international corporates, institutional investors, alternative asset managers, senior management teams, founders and investee companies for both transactional and advisory matters.

James has in-depth experience advising on a full range of transactions including leveraged buyouts, consortium deals, bolt-on acquisitions, carve-outs, co-investments, minority deals, recapitalisations, divestments, distressed M&A, public-to-privates, joint ventures, reorganisations and restructurings.

James is ranked as a 'Highly Regarded Lawyer' for M&A and private equity by IFLR1000 UK, 2019.

Other roles and background

James sits on the International Board and helps to set and implement the firm's international strategy and develop relationships with overseas firms. He also has a focus on the firm's US strategy.

James joined Travers Smith as a trainee in 2000, spent a year on secondment at Equistone (formerly Barclays Private Equity), and became a partner in 2011.
