JJ is a fourth seat trainee solicitor in the Operational Risk Department.
Growing up in Kenya, outdoor life has been at the centre of my formative years. I have a passion for wildlife and the oceans, and I've been lucky enough to work within and explore the amazing opportunities across east Africa. Whilst the majority of my time is focused on legal work, I have been able to play a variety of sports at Travers Smith, adding another dimension to office life. My weekends are often spent finding new fly fishing spots across the UK.
A great vacation scheme gave a real insight into life at Travers Smith and highlighted the unique training structure to me. The first year has proven to be a challenging yet supportive environment in which to work. I spent my first seat in our Private Equity and Financial Sponsors Group and had the opportunity to assist on a number of deal completions. My second rotation has been in the Funds Department. It has been extremely valuable to compare differing stages of the private equity sphere. I am now beginning my seat in the Dispute Resolution Department, where I am looking forward to assisting on some challenging contentious work.
