Real estate tax expertise
Jonathan has a particular interest in real estate taxation. He regularly advises on the acquisition, development and disposal of a broad range of commercial and residential assets, including student accommodation projects and PRS schemes. An important element of his work involves keeping abreast of tax-related changes affecting the property world in order to anticipate problems and spot opportunities for clients. Jonathan is regularly involved in responding to Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC) consultations in an effort to ensure that taxpayers' interests are represented and new rules are properly enacted.
Jonathan assisted the Office of Tax Simplification in relation to its paper entitled 'Stamp duty on paper documents: a way forward to reform, digitise and simplify,' dated July 2017.
He also co-authored the Tax Journal article 'The big read: Taxing non-residents on UK property gains: the rules for funds,' dated 7 December 2018.
