Overview

Join us for the first in a series of webinars focused on sustainable business themes particularly relevant to alternative asset managers.  Aimed at business leaders, senior executives, general counsel and legal and compliance teams, the series will debate the key sustainability issues for 2021 and the impact they will have on private markets in Europe.

This webinar, "How the EU’s green deal and sustainable finance action plan will affect private markets", will feature a keynote speech from Nathan Fabian, Chief Responsible Investment Officer at the UN-backed Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) and Chairperson of the European Platform on Sustainable Finance, followed by a lively panel discussion chaired by Travers Smith's Senior Partner, Kathleen Russ.

Mark Fawcett, Chief Investment Officer, NEST

Mark joined NEST in 2008 and has been an investment manager for the over 30 years, having managed money at a variety of institutions. At Gartmore, Mark was head of Japanese equities while at American Express Asset Management International, he was chief investment officer. Before joining NEST, Mark was a partner at the boutique investment manager Thames River Capital LLP. Mark has an MA Maths & Philosophy from Oxford University & an MSc Management from London Business School. He has a non-executive role on the investment committee of USS.

Vanessa Maydon, Corporate Affairs Director, Cinven

Vanessa is Cinven's Corporate Affairs Director, with responsibility for the firm's corporate communications, marketing and ESG activities. She is a member of Cinven’s ESG Steering Group and is a trustee of The Cinven Foundation. She sits on the Board of Invest Europe and is a Board Trustee of the charity Impetus. Prior to joining Cinven, Vanessa was a Director at Merlin, a London-based financial PR agency, for 11 years where she specialised in advising European private equity firms and their portfolio companies, as well as UK listed companies. Vanessa was previously a Director at Ludgate Communications and started her career at Burson-Marsteller. Vanessa has a BA Hons in Latin from Durham University. She joined Cinven in 2011.

Nathan Fabian, Chief Responsible Investment Officer, PRI

Nathan Fabian is the Chair of the European Platform on Sustainable Finance, a public and private sector expert panel to develop sustainable finance policies and tools in Europe, including the EU Taxonomy. Nathan is also Chief Responsible Investment Officer at the United Nations-supported Principles for Responsible Investment. The PRI supports over 3000 institutional investors globally to incorporate Environmental, Social and Governance factors into their investment activities. He has been with the PRI for five years. He served as the Rapporteur for the Taxonomy Group of the EU Technical Expert Group on Sustainable Finance and was an Observer on the EU High Level Expert Group on Sustainable Finance and part of the Secretariat for the UK Green Finance Taskforce. These roles are part of fifteen years of professional experience in sustainable finance in government policy, investment research and ratings on companies, and the development of investment processes and tools. Prior to the PRI, Nathan was the CEO of the Investor Group on Climate Change (IGCC) Australia / New Zealand. Previous roles include Head of ESG Research at Regnan, a provider of ESG research and engagement services; and as a Corporate Governance Policy Advisor in the Australian Parliament. Prior to this, Nathan was a founding Partner of Full Corp Partners, a financial services and IT start-up company advisory firm. He has also worked as a change management consultant for Arthur Andersen and as a market analyst at global communications manufacturing company, Krone. Nathan holds a M.A. in International Relations from the University of New South Wales, a BBus from the University of Newcastle (Australia) and is a Vincent Fairfax Fellow in ethics and leadership.
