Beyond the changes introduced by Finance Act 2026, many areas of UK tax are set for reform (to a greater or lesser degree) in the next few years. What follows is a series of very high-level summaries of some of the more important proposals the government has either committed to or is actively considering.
- Draft Legislation & Finance Bill 2026: covers measures where draft legislation has already been published, either for inclusion in the next Finance Bill or as a Statutory Instrument.
- Consultations & Calls for Evidence: covers areas where the government (and, in one case, the OECD) is consulting with stakeholders on proposed new measures and policy developments.
- Other Announced Changes & Developments: covers tax changes that have already been announced, or are ongoing, where a consultation is not considered necessary and legislation has not yet been published.
In addition, Budget 2026, the first under Prime Minister, Rt Hon Andy Burnham MP, will be delivered by Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rt Hon John Healey MP, on 28 October 2026. As ever, there has been plenty of speculation around possible taxes measures and policies in advance. For more analysis, see: Budget Tracker 2026.
We have highlighted some areas of that are likely to be of particular interest to those working in M&A.
