Travers Smith has advised long-standing client Arjun Infrastructure Partners on its acquisition and financing of a further stake in Bigadan, a Danish biogas platform, supporting the company’s next phase of growth and development.
Bigadan is a leading Danish renewable energy platform transforming organic waste including manure, food industry by-products and industrial organic waste products into biogas for renewable energy and fertilisers. Operating under long-term feed-in tariffs, Bigadan plays a central role in Denmark’s circular bioeconomy while also providing engineering and operational expertise to third-party partners.
Under Arjun’s majority ownership, Bigadan plans to expand its platform through the development of carbon capture facilities and the conversion of two additional plants from combined heat and power (CHP) generation to grid injection.
The Travers Smith team on this transaction was led by our Infrastructure M&A Partner Jonathan Walters, supported by Senior Counsel Joe Knox, and Associates Celina Chang and Andrew Granville. Debt financing advice was provided by our Infrastructure Finance Partner Ryan Ayrton, supported by Senior Counsel Fiona Swords, Senior Associate Shehan Canagasingham, Associate James O'Neill and Trainee Tamar Kamladze.
Our work follows advising Arjun on the acquisition of a 49.9% stake in Bigadan in 2021.
