Claire is a second trainee in the Tax Department at Travers Smith.
Growing up in Singapore, an appreciation for culture and food is something that inspires a lot of my hobbies. I love to visit new cafes and restaurants with friends, and often challenge myself to recreate what I've eaten when I get home. Since I first visited, my favourite part of London has been the museums, and I'm always trying to find a hidden gem that I haven't explored yet. I try to watch theatre when I can, since it's so convenient to catch a show in the city, but when I want a more low-key day I always turn to my favourite pastime: looking forlornly at books in bookstores while reminding myself of the giant to-read pile I have at home.
I chose Travers Smith because of its inclusive culture and excellent training. The room-sharing system creates a collaborative and welcoming environment, and is a great way to learn about your colleagues at different stages in their careers. Everyone I have met has been so friendly – from when I first met the firm at law fairs years ago, to my vacation scheme, and now my training contract – that it has been easy to feel like a part of the team from day one.
