Emily is Head of Asset Management at Travers Smith. She specialises in the taxation of asset managers, investment funds and their investors.
Emily advises on all aspects of fund formation across all the alternative asset classes – private equity and venture, credit, infrastructure and real estate. She works with clients to decide on the optimum structure, jurisdiction and remuneration arrangements for their fund.
Emily also advises asset managers – from global multi-strategy houses through to new start-up teams – on the tax issues which impact their businesses. Recent work has included advising on Brexit, on carried interest and co-invest arrangements, and dealing with HMRC enquiries.
Emily also advises a number of institutional investors – pension funds, funds of funds, and family offices – as they invest into alternative asset classes.
Emily is a member of Invest Europe's International Tax and Tax Reporting Committee, the Alternative Credit Council's Tax Committee and the British Property Federation's Tax Committee, and has been involved in discussions with HMRC and HM Treasury on the enactment of complex new legislations.
