Travers Smith LLP is delighted to have won the Pensions Law Firm of the Year Award at the 2021 FT Pensions Expert Pension and Investment Provider Awards (PIPAs).
Now in their 22nd year, the PIPAs celebrate the organisations contributing to a better retirement for today's occupational pension savers. Winners and commended providers from these prestigious awards are picked because they have achieved outstanding performance, upheld the highest standards of service to their clients, and driven the innovation necessary to keep the industry moving forward.
The firm's Pensions Sector team was recognised for its work on a number of high-profile and innovative pensions matters delivered throughout the year. The client work for which it was recognised spanned a huge range of significant matters for organisations across the industry. Particular highlights included new endgame solutions and major insured de-risking transactions, plus employer covenant and restructuring, sustainability and diversity and inclusion - all of which demonstrate the effective and commercial way the team collaborates with clients to help them achieve their goals. The award also recognised the significant wider contribution the firm makes to the industry by creating an agile and inclusive workplace for its people, and 'giving back' time and expertise to provide support on new and emerging themes in pensions.
Notably, Travers Smith partnered with the Pensions & Lifetime Saving Association (PLSA) to co-author the PLSA's Diversity and Inclusion made simple guide. The guide is a first for the pensions industry and is designed to be both practical and promote consistent standards.
The team was also instrumental in the establishment of O:pen, the new professional pensions network for LGBTQ+ people and allies. This work supports Travers Smith's wider commitment to diversity and inclusion, including within the pensions sector. Additionally, the team has been actively involved with a wide range of high-profile industry bodies, including a number focussed on GMP equalisation, and regularly works with these groups and others within the pensions industry to share best practice.
Commenting on this year's winners, the judges stated: "Performance and consistency were key markers of firms that impressed our judges, with a commitment to improving the industry's diversity proving decisive."
Partner and Head of Pensions, Daniel Gerring, commented: I'm delighted that we have won FT Pensions Expert PIPA Pensions Law Firm of the Year 2021. This is a reflection of our Pensions Sector Practice's continued commitment to providing the best possible service to our clients while helping the pensions industry to break new ground across the whole spectrum of pensions challenges - from investment, de-risking and covenant to sustainability and diversity & inclusion. I'm very proud of our growing team and grateful for this acknowledgement of all of our enthusiasm and hard work."
Managing Partner, Edmund Reed, commented: "Our Pensions Practice is a key component in our wider market leading asset management business and I am very proud of the team for winning this high-profile award. It is a fitting testament to the hard work and commitment demonstrated by the whole Pensions team, especially over the last year. The team has been brilliant at not only advising their clients on numerous high-profile matters, but at the same time playing a leading role, both within their industry and our firm, on diversity and inclusion matters."
