INvolve publishes Empower Role Model Lists 2022

INvolve, a global consultancy championing diversity and inclusion in business, has unveiled the Empower Role Model Lists 2022.

These lists, supported by Yahoo! Finance, showcases leaders who are creating a more diverse and inclusive business environment for ethnically diverse employees.

Travers Smith LLP is pleased to announce Senior Partner, Kathleen Russ, has been recognised in Empower 50 Advocates Role Model List 2022. This is the third consecutive year that Kathleen has been included in this list.

Kathleen has been recognised based on her work internally and externally as sponsor of the Travers Smith's black and minority ethnic recruitment and retention strategy, which seeks to introduce formal mechanisms to create fairness at critical inflection points of lawyers' careers. This includes mentoring as well as implementing processes to ensure fair access to opportunities to work for important clients and to help address structural inequality in the division of work assignments.

As Chair of the firm's D&I Board, Kathleen has also sponsored the firmwide response to the Black Lives Matter movement, which saw the delivery of anti-racism and effective allyship training for all staff and partners and the publication of Travers Smith’s ethnicity pay gap reporting. The firm also signed up to Rare Recruitment's Race Fairness Commitment and the Law Firm Anti-Racism Alliance. In addition to sponsoring these initiatives, Kath helped set up and is an active participant in the firm's reverse mentoring scheme to enable junior colleagues from ethnically diverse backgrounds to share their experiences with senior leaders.

Founder and CEO of INvolve, Suki Sanhu OBE, says:

"I'm so thrilled to be celebrating this global group of trailblazing Executives, Future Leaders and Advocates for people of color in business. All individuals within these lists are championing inclusion and, most importantly, leveraging their expertise and knowledge to drive inclusion initiatives and strategic change within their organizations. It's vital that people of color within our global businesses can succeed and achieve authentically, and these Role Models are essential drivers of change and are smashing barriers to progress to create organizations where people of color can thrive."

Senior Partner Kathleen Russ commented:

"It’s vital that Advocates across all businesses are committed to using their platform, influence and sharing their expertise to advocate for inclusion. Acknowledging that it is not the responsibility of people from minority groups to create a fairer society, we continue to focus our efforts on fighting racial inequality by empowering our people to become more effective allies to people from ethnic minority backgrounds, both within Travers Smith and beyond. We also continue to consult with our black and ethnic minority colleagues to ensure that our anti-racism initiatives are as authentic and meaningful as possible, and also provide support to charities and organisations which are aimed at tackling racial inequality."
