Travers Smith awarded Recycling Gold Standard Award

Overview

Travers Smith LLP is delighted to announce that it has been awarded a Recycling Gold Standard Award by waste management company First Mile.

Out of 20,000 commercial customers in London, the firm finished in third place with 98 per cent of our waste being recycled.

Last year the firm partnered with First Mile to launch NIL to landfill, a new firm-wide initiative aimed at reducing the amount of waste being produced. Since starting our partnership with First Mile, the firm has recycled 116,370 kg of waste, with one of the biggest changes being in the amount of food waste that is now recycled.

As part of the new initiative, the firm introduced new recycling bins into every kitchen, allowing staff to split rubbish into general waste, mixed recycling or food waste.

Under this new scheme, all of the firm's general waste is now sent to the Belvedere Incinerator, which converts the waste into clean energy to power up to 100,000 homes every year. The leftover ash will also be turned into products to be used to build roads all over the UK.
